The coast of the Kingdom of Granada

Cuevas del Almanzora

Today: Cuevas del Almanzora, Spain

Years
1488–1833

The Adelantamiento of Murcia took Cuevas in 1488; in 1503 the Crown gave it to Pedro Fajardo, governor of Murcia, and the town passed to the marquisate of los Vélez as Cuevas del Marqués. Its coast was very unsafe throughout the 16th century because of Barbary pirates, and the raids went on in the 17th.
