A palace-fortress that the first Marquis of los Vélez, Pedro Fajardo, had built around 1507 over a Muslim fortress, whose tower became its keep, with a moat, a wall with gunports and a governor's house; the Casa de la Tercia was added in 1773. A refuge for the Christians in the Morisco rebellion, it is owned by the town today and houses the Antonio Manuel Campoy contemporary art museum, the archaeology museum and the library.
