From the caliphal fortress of Gormaz above the Duero, which al-Ḥakam II had rebuilt in 965 to shield Medinaceli, to the Castillo de Ayyub, which gave Calatayud its origin and its name. The road passes through Medinaceli, the Madīnat Sālim from which al-Manṣūr launched his campaigns and where he died in 1002.
