A bishopric of the kingdom, on the Pisuerga plain near its meeting with the Carrión. Wamba brought the remains of the martyr Saint Antoninus here from Narbonne in 672 or 673, and under his reign the Visigothic cathedral was raised, of which only the crypt survives, today beneath the Gothic cathedral. Eleven kilometres away, at Baños de Cerrato, Recceswinth had founded the church of San Juan in 661.
