The coast of the Kingdom of Granada

Roquetas de Mar

Today: Roquetas de Mar, Spain

Years
1737–1833

Roquetas grew up beside the castle of Santa Ana, which guarded the salt pans and the loading of salt against corsairs: in 1737 there were a few farmsteads, the village and the garrison's houses, and in 1739 the coastal district of Almería began here. In 1776 it separated from Felix as a municipality of its own.
