The old Visigothic capital, Ṭulayṭula was a proud and often rebellious city of the Middle March, with a large Mozarabic Christian and Jewish population. It was the first great city of al-Andalus to fall, to Alfonso VI in 1085, and became the place where Arabic science was translated into Latin.
