One of the oldest gates of Toledo, built in the 10th century. Its Arabic name means "blocked up", perhaps because the Puerta del Sol took over its role, and Valmardón is the Castilian rendering of it. The neighbouring mosque of Cristo de la Luz takes its Arabic name from the gate.
