Visigothic kingdom

Santa Lucía del Trampal

Today: Alcuéscar, Spain

Years
601–711

The only Visigothic building still standing in the southern half of the peninsula, on the slope of the sierra del Centinela north of Mérida. Its east end of three rectangular chapels opening onto a transept has no equal in Hispania, and its marble imposts carved with scrollwork are still in place. It can be visited.
