Visigothic kingdom

Legio

Today: León, Spain

Years
507–711

The old base of the Legio VII Gemina stayed inhabited after the end of the empire and was a bishopric of the kingdom. Nothing of those centuries stands inside the city, but seven kilometres away, at Marialba de la Ribera, the largest early Christian martyrial church known in the peninsula was excavated, to which a baptistery was added in Visigothic times.
