It was begun about 585, with the baptistery and perhaps a bishop's palace. It was a mosque between the 9th and 10th centuries and became a church again under the Templars, who rebuilt it from the older materials; what remains of the Suebic and Visigothic years are the foundations and the arcades, and many carved pieces. It is no longer used for worship and is visited as a museum, with the baptistery under cover beside it.
