The city's episcopal church, begun in the 5th century and enlarged in the 6th and 7th with clear Byzantine influence: a wall of more than thirty metres with paintings and mosaics, then an apse that may have been the bishop's reception hall, and finally a columned portico flanked by exedrae. About 785 it was pulled down to raise the mosque. Mosaics, capitals and pillars are shown in the Museo de San Vicente inside the cathedral, and other remains under a glass floor.
