Visigothic kingdom
Corduba
Today: Córdoba, Spain
- Years
- 507–711
- Role
- Bishopric of Baetica
The old capital of Baetica went on as a bishopric, and in the 6th century its bishop's complex moved from Cercadilla, outside the walls, to the ground where the mosque would rise two centuries later. It went on growing there into the 7th century, with building techniques and plans of eastern influence. Of that church there remain mosaics, capitals and foundations beneath the cathedral.
