Roman Hispania

Toletum

Today: Toledo, Spain

Years
193 BCE–409

An important Carpetanian centre until Marcus Fulvius Nobilior took it in 193 BCE, after fierce resistance. The Romans rebuilt the town and called it Toletum, in Carpetania, on the bend of the Tagus that defended it on three sides. The first written source to name it is Livy. Of the Roman city there remains the circus, outside the medieval town.
