The arch of ancient Pax Iulia, known as the Porta de Évora, reckoned to have been built in the 3rd or the 4th century, like the walls of that time. Today it stands between one of the surviving stretches of wall and one of the towers of the castle of Beja, and serves as the main way into its barbican. It has been a national monument since 1910.
