Twenty-eight thousand square metres of town on the hill of Castelo Velho, with the baths and the paved road to the south-east raised under the Flavians. In the first half of the 2nd century a second set of baths and the hippodrome were added, the latter a little apart from the centre. Beneath it all lies an Iron Age settlement with structures of the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE.
