The wall of the colony, raised under Tiberius in the 1st century and remade until the 3rd, which came to run some three thousand metres with a hundred and twenty towers. What stands was built in the second half of the 3rd century; of the first phase there survives opus caementicium at the back of the ashlar walls and in their footings. Visigoths and Muslims took it over, and it shaped the plan of the city for centuries.
