Six unequal arches on five piers carry the road over the Tagus, a hundred and ninety-four metres long and fifty-eight high, unusual for a Roman bridge and forced by the floods of the river in this canyon. Broken and rebuilt many times, from the 13th century to the first Carlist war, it carries at its centre an honorific arch that is not Roman work but part of the 15th-century refashioning. Since October 2025 no cars cross it.
