A Phoenician settlement of the mid 8th century BCE on what was then an island at the mouth of the Vélez, with houses in lines along streets, stone footings, mudbrick walls and flat terraced roofs. One of its buildings, some 150 square metres, may have been a warehouse of two storeys. It grew to hold about fifteen hundred people working copper and iron, and by 550 BCE it stood empty.
