The hill settlement and its wall, whose first work is dated to about the 9th and 8th centuries BCE and continued through that later century. To the 7th or 6th century BCE belong the new houses and the imported pottery that mark the Phoenician presence taking hold. The hill was occupied again afterwards, with Islamic material of the 9th to 11th centuries and the first written mention of its castle in 1087, so the Phoenician layers lie under later ones; the objects are in the Museu Municipal Santos Rocha.
