Two Phoenician wrecks of the 7th century BCE found off the Playa de la Isla, in the harbour. Mazarrón I came to light in 1988, fifty metres from the shore and two and a half metres down, and is shown in the national museum of underwater archaeology at Cartagena; of Mazarrón II, found in 1994 and better preserved, all that was left in the sea was the metal sarcophagus protecting it until it was lifted in 2024. There is an interpretation centre in the town, opened in 2009.
