A coast the Phoenicians worked for the metal of the ranges behind it, and off which the two Phoenician ships of the 7th century BCE were found, facing the Playa de la Isla in the harbour. They are among the few Phoenician hulls preserved anywhere: the dead seagrass that covered them sealed them and kept them. With them came more than eight thousand pieces of pottery, a silver scarab and a spearhead.
