- Years
- 1487–1833
Nerja passed to Castile in 1487; El Zagal briefly retook it with Torrox the next year. Corsair raids emptied it until a charter of 1515 separated it from Vélez and shared its land among new settlers, who were bound to bear arms, and cannon were set in the Torre de los Guardas, today the Balcón de Europa.
