A fort that Carlos III had built on Carchuna beach against frequent pirate raids, in 1777 or in 1783 depending on the source: a rectangular enclosure with a horseshoe front to the north, semicircular towers and a large semicircular gun battery to the south. In the Civil War it was a Francoist prison, and in May 1938 a Republican raid freed some 300 prisoners.
