The coast of the Kingdom of Granada

Estepona

Today: Estepona, Spain

Years
1456–1833

Estepona passed to Castile in 1456, when Enrique IV allowed a raid on the town, and went to the lordship of the Marquis of Villena; from 1552 it came under Marbella. In the 16th century towers went up along its coast to guard the estates against Barbary pirates, and in 1729 a township charter separated it from Marbella.
