What remains
Standing

The castle of Almuñécar, over the remains of the Arab wall, as rebuilt under Carlos I, who had its towers and moat built; its fabric is early modern, with a drawbridge and gun works facing the sea. The French occupied it in 1812 and it was badly damaged, then it became the town cemetery; restored and owned by the town, it now houses the town history museum.
