Known as Walba or Awnaba, Huelva was a small port where the Odiel and the Tinto meet, living from fishing, salt and the estuary. In the 11th century it was a taifa ruled by the Banū Bakr, the family of al-Bakrī, the great geographer of al-Andalus.
