Tarŷāla, the Roman Turgalium, was a medina of the kūra of Mérida, a stronghold and a market town, with a fortress, cisterns and part of its wall from caliphal times. It changed hands several times in the 12th century and the Almohads won it back in 1196. Its final conquest, after a siege begun in 1232, fell on 25 January 1233 in the Spanish article and 1232 in the English one.
