Capital of the Upper March

The "white city" on the Ebro was the capital of the Upper March and, from 1018, of the Hūdid taifa, whose palace, the Aljafería, still stands. A centre of mathematics and philosophy, it fell to Alfonso I of Aragon in 1118.
