The castle on the rocky spur above the huerta of Murcia, recorded around 1078 or 1079 and given its present layout under Ibn Mardanīš in the 12th century, when it formed a group with the Castillejo and the Larache fortification. After 1243 it was Alfonso X's residence in Murcia. It can be seen across the huerta, above the village of Monteagudo.
