The 12th-century mosque, raised over a Christian church of the 6th or 7th century, is the only medieval mosque in Portugal to survive. It became a church again after the conquest and 16th-century works hid part of it, but it keeps the five-aisled hall, the outer walls, four doorways and the Almohad mihrab, where the high altar stands.
