The citadel and the town wall, built for the most part under the Umayyad Caliphate, between 930 and 1031, reusing Roman materials. The Almohads closed the north side at the end of the 12th century, repaired a tower in 1171 and raised the gate tower in 1184. The keep belongs to the Order of Santiago, from 1292, after the conquest of 1238.
