What remains
Standing

An Andalusi palace-fortress on the slope of Mount Gibralfaro, built over a Phoenician-Punic stronghold. The present complex was begun in the 11th century and reworked up to the 14th; a walled corridor joins it to the castle on the summit. Its enclosures are open to visitors, though less than half of the original extent survives.
