The port of the Naṣrid kingdom and one of the busiest in the western Mediterranean, Mālaqa exported raisins, figs, silk and its famous lustreware through Genoese merchants. The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro guarded the bay; the city fell in 1487 after a hard siege by the Catholic Monarchs.
