The citadel of Álora on the Cerro de las Torres, built by the Arabs in stages: the strongest part under the emirate, the upper enclosure with six square towers in caliphal times and the weakest in the taifa period. After the earthquake of 1680 it became the cemetery. Two towers, partly rebuilt, and a horseshoe arch in the wall still stand.
