The cisterns that supplied the people and troops of Almería, at the end of an underground channel some 6,400 metres long from the springs of Alhadra. Their date is disputed: according to al-Ḥimyarī they were built for Jayrān, taifa king from 1012 to 1028, and according to al-ʿUdrī for his successor Zuhayr, from 1028 to 1038. Brick halls with barrel vaults on Roman piers and caliphal arches survive beneath the El Taranto flamenco club, and entry is free.
