Valdecanales

Today: Rus (Jaén), Spain

Years
501–711

A rock-cut hermitage dug into the cerro de la Alcobilla, near the Valdecanales stream and the old royal road from Toledo to Granada. It is the only Visigothic hypogeum in the south of Spain, and it is dated between the 6th and the 7th century. Rafael Vañó Silvestre and the landowner found it in 1968.
