Its dating is an open debate. Helmut Schlunk read it as 7th century Visigothic, with its east end and horseshoe arch of that time; since the 1980s other authors have dated it to about the 10th century, for its lintelled door under a relieving arch and its west tribune, and a study of 2003 found Visigothic carvings reused in the walls. It served as a cattle pen from the 18th century, and that saved it from ruin.
