One of the basilicas that Pimenius, bishop of the see of Asido, had raised about the middle of the 7th century on the great estates and villages of his diocese, built over the remains of a Roman villa. It is one of the few early Christian basilicas of the peninsular southwest, beside the hermitages of the Santos Mártires at Medina Sidonia and of the Silla del Papa.
