The amphitheatre built at the end of the 2nd century beside the sea, at the foot of the wall. On 21 January 259, in the persecutions under Valerian, the bishop Fructuosus and his deacons Augurius and Eulogius were burned alive in its arena. It lost its purpose in the 5th century, and a century later its ashlar was used for a Christian basilica marking the martyrdom.
