Roman Hispania

Lucentum

Today: Alicante, Spain

Years
30 BCE–300

On a Contestanian Iberian settlement of the 4th century BCE grew a Roman town whose heyday is dated between the 1st century BCE and the 1st CE. It declined early, because neighbouring Ilici was better connected by land and sea, and was all but abandoned in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. The Tossal de Manises keeps much of its wall.
