An Iberian town of the Genil valley that Hamilcar Barca and Hasdrubal controlled from 237 BCE and that opened its gates to Rome after the defeat of Carthage. Caesar gave it the rank of municipium under the name Municipium Florentinum Iliberitanum, and later sources almost always call it Florentia. It gave Rome three senators and a consul, and in the year 304 it held a church council. Its site was long argued between Granada and Medina Elvira, and is now documented in the ground of the Albaicín.
