The largest amphitheatre known in Hispania and the third in the empire, 178 by 140 metres and holding between thirty and forty thousand. It was built in the Julio-Claudian period, in the middle of the 1st century, and stayed in use until the early 4th. Its remains were identified in 2002 under the old Veterinary Faculty, today the rectorate of the University of Córdoba.
