The only two Phoenician anthropoid sarcophagi found in Spain, both at Cádiz and both on show here. The male one came to light in 1887 in the Punta de la Vaca cemetery; the female, the Dama de Cádiz, in 1980 during building work on calle Ruiz de Alda, and it is dated to 480 BCE. The finding of the first is what created the museum's archaeological section.
