The Almoravid fortress of Fuengirola, taken on 7 August 1485 and rebuilt afterwards as a post in the coastal watch. In the 16th century a new entrance was opened and the east tower gave way to a gun battery; in 1812 the French blew up the south-west tower as they left. Restored between 1990 and 1997, it is an open-air auditorium today.
