Siyāsa was a walled town on top of the Cerro del Castillo, above the Segura, that grew to some four thousand people between the mid 12th and the early 13th century. It passed to Castile in 1243 under the Treaty of Alcaraz and, after the Mudéjar revolt of 1266, was slowly abandoned for present-day Cieza, down in the valley.
