The great mosque of Córdoba, built by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān I in 786 and enlarged under the emirate and the Caliphate: al-Ḥakam II gave it the mihrab and maqsura in 971, and Almanzor the last extension in 987. Consecrated as a church after the conquest of 1236, it is the cathedral today, and the prayer hall with the caliphal mihrab can be visited.
