The tower guarding the north-west flank of the old walled town, on the Plaza Mayor, raised when the Almohads rebuilt Cáceres in the 12th century. Christian troops used it when they took the town in 1169, but the Muslims won it back in 1173. Its name may come from the caliph Abu Yaqub.
