The citadel of the frontier town, on top of the hill of La Mota, in its Naṣrid form of the 13th and 14th centuries with earlier elements. Three of the seven gates on the way up survive, among them the bent Puerta de la Imagen with a horseshoe arch, much like the Gate of Justice of the Alhambra. Alfonso XI took it in 1341 and Castile added works such as the Torre Nueva.
