Palace-city of the Caliphate

Built by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān III from 936 as a palace-city a few kilometres west of Córdoba, with terraces of gardens, reception halls and a mint, it was the showpiece of the Caliphate. It was sacked and abandoned in the civil war after 1010 and is an archaeological site today.
