The fortress at the top of Iznájar, the ḥiṣn al-ašar or "cheerful castle" that gives the village its name. The first mentions are from the 8th century, with dates such as 726 or 742 and no agreement; its plan was set in the 10th, the walls of the parade ground are 11th century and the second enclosure is Naṣrid, from after 1246. Castile took it in 1434 and it was turned into a house in the 18th century.
